Voice and data communications infrastructure for the Canary Islands and Southern Iberian Peninsula of the Spanish Search and Rescue Agency provided by DEIMOS
25th February 2021SASEMAR, a Spanish Maritime Rescue and Safety Agency, has relied on DEIMOS technical expertise to optimize its rescue and maritime traffic control operations.
The new management, transport and infrastructure systems for voice and data communications of maritime mobile services in the southern area of the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands will be provided by DEIMOS, based on the latest VoIP, RDS and 5G technologies. DEIMOS will also supply and install a new licensed microwave radio link with 5G technology to increase the reliability of communications between the Tarifa and Algeciras centers and their remote stations.
This contract consolidates DEIMOS as a provider of engineering solutions for the maritime sector, following other activities such as the supply and integration of radar sensors, AIS and voice communications for maritime traffic management in the ports of Avilés, Alicante and Pontevedra also for SASEMAR.
SASEMAR’s main mission is to ensure the safety of human life at sea. The Agency assists more than 15,000 people and around 3,000 vessels each year.
The deployments are essential to ensure dependable communications in these critical maritime areas, set of several humanitarian crisis over the last years. The crossing of the Atlantic to the Canary Islands is today one of the most dangerous migration routes to European territory.
