Supply and installation of radar sensors in northern Spain and the Canary Islands

The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society awards Deimos Space the supply and installation of state-of-the-art radar sensors in northern Spain and the Canary Islands

19 October 2023 – The Maritime Safety and Rescue Society, under the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda of Spain, has chosen Deimos Space for the supply and installation, in operational condition, of the radar subsystem for the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers in Bilbao, Santander, Gijón, La Coruña, Tenerife, and Las Palmas.

The contract reflects trust in Deimos’ experience and technical expertise, following the successful renewal of ground-to-sea communications in the Rescue Coordination Centers of Cádiz, Algeciras, Tenerife, and Las Palmas in recent years, as well as the renovation of MF/HF equipment in all centers. In addition, Deimos has managed the corrective maintenance of the current radar network. All of this adds to the company’s extensive experience in providing these systems.

The supplied radars are state-of-the-art, ensuring optimal performance and increased operational reliability in all weather and maritime conditions. They will play a vital role in enhancing surveillance, as their installation will enhance the safety of maritime operations in the mentioned areas, allowing for a quicker and more effective response in maritime traffic control and emergency situations.

“We are very proud to have been selected for this critical project and are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that contribute to the safety of our coasts and seas,” says Ignacio Isabel, Director of Aeronautics and Maritime at Deimos. “We will actively work to ensure that these radars are fully operational and ready to fulfill their maritime rescue mission.”
